EDEX Sithuwam which has become an integral part of art lovers around the island, stamped its appeal by recording a mammoth number of entries this year.

The 17,000 artworks that flooded the EDEX Secretariat by post and by hand was recorded as the highest number of entries ever received to date, by the organizers of this CSR Project.

This year the Judges had a Herculean task to choose the ultimate winners. The chief guest was Prof Jagath Weerasinghe, Director, Post Graduate Institute of Archaeology, a well-known figure in the art circles, who was appreciative of the quality of the entries.

The artworks, in turn, were beautifully framed and adorned at a strategic stall at the EDEX Main Expo, in January 2015. 200 selected entries were displayed for the public to view.

The competition was open to Primary (Grade 1 to 3), Junior (Grade 4 to 6), Intermediate (Grade 7 to 9) and the Senior category (Grade 10 -13), respectively.

Entries ranged from students from 6 years to 19 years. The themes for the competition were, based on the school, home and society.

Parallel to exhibition an awards ceremony held at the Royal College Union on January 25, 2015. A workshop for the winners was held at the same venue.

The main sponsor of the art competition was a much-loved and well-known paints brand Lankem Robbialac, who generously donated paint vouchers for the first place winners of the schools of all four categories.

Yenuli Boyagoda, Maliyadeva Girls’ School, Kurunegala; Kavindu Deneth Wickramasinghe NCEF Buddhist College, Mulleriyawa; Lasmitha Dayaljith Samaraweera Dharmaraja College, Kandy; K. A. Jeewa Nayanamali Maliyadeva Girls’ School, Kurunegala.

The Ninth EDEX Sithuwam 2016 Art Competition and Exhibition is scheduled to coincide with EDEX Expo 2016, the largest Education and Careers Exhibition in Sri Lanka to be held at the BMICH Colombo on 22-23-24 January 2016 and at the Kandy City Centre, Kandy on 29th&30th January 2016.

Students who are interested are requested to their entries under the following categories: Primary (Grade 1 to 3), Junior (Grade 4 to 6), Intermediate (Grade 7 to 9) and the Senior category (Grade 10 -13).

Artists can use any medium of paints, and your paintings’ have to be A3 size. You may choose any ‘theme’.
