Representatives of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) affirmed unity in the upcoming General Election today at the office of the Opposition Leader in Colombo.
General Secretary of the UPFA Susil Premajayantha and former parliamentarians Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, and Dulles Alahapperuma addressing the media stated that they were ready to take on and defeat the alliance led by the United National Party (UNP). They also criticized the speech given by President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday evening.
Former Deputy Ministers Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Eric Weerawardena and Sudharshini Fernandopulle were also present. The three, who had earlier in the day resigned from their deputy ministerial portfolios in protest against the President’s speech, affirmed the same stance and highlighted the need to unite the party and bring to its campaign former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
