National Polls Observations Center (NPOC) revealed today that they have received 168 complaints related to election and other related incidents.
“We received 21 cases related to election violence, 86 cases of misuse of state property and 62 cases of illegal propaganda,” said NPOC Convener Rasanga Harischandra.
The NPOC have been informed that after the election was declared there had been appointments made to several government institutions.
“Appointments were made to institutions like Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Sri Lanka Transport Board and to Ministry of Health. Also 900 appointments have been made in the North Central Provincial council,” said NPOC Executive member Shayam Fernando.
He further mentioned that they have taken measures to bring the situation to the notice of the Elections Commissioner and that they have received a favorable response.
NPOC also expressed that cases of distribution of dry rations in districts Matale, Kandy, Trincomalee, Vavuniya and distribution of liquor in Nuwara Eliya and Chillaw areas have been reported to them, which are clear cases of violation of election laws and certain other legal provisions in the country.
“Candidates of any party have a responsibility in maintaining law and order to ensure a free and fair election,” said Fernando.
