Supporters of Colombo District MP Duminda Silva conducted a march Friday (July 10) evening demanding nominations for the MP. The supporters, who had gathered in front of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) headquarters, marched towards the Mahaweli Centre, in Green Path where the United People’s Freedom Front (UPFA) leaders were finalizing and providing successful contestants with the opportunity to sign nomination papers.

The supporters then handed over a letter to UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha to consider the name of former MP Duminda Silva. The MP’s name was linked with the Bharatha Lakshaman assassination case and the MP who was also badly injured at the shooting returned to the country after being treated in Singapore.

The supporters demanded the MP’s name to be included in the final list if they were to leave the premises. However, Freedom Alliance General Secretary managed to speak to the gathering and they vacated the premises expecting a positive reply during the weekend. The deadline for the nominations is scheduled for noon on Monday. (DPL)
