Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne assumed duties as the 20th Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy with effect from July 11.

Wijegunaratne was the former Navy Chief-of-Staff and the former Director General of the Coast Guard Department, and also served as the Commander of the Eastern Naval Area of the Sri Lanka Navy.

He is an old boy of Royal College, Colombo and is a recipient of the coveted Weerodara Vibhushanaya, He succeeds Jayantha Perera, who was promoted to the rank of Admiral by President Maithripala Sirisena on July 9.
