Over 20,000 medicine capsules that were being sold illegally were taken into custody along with two suspects in a joint raid conducted by the Fort Police and officials of the Drug Regulatory Authority yesterday.

According to police, officers had first arrested a suspect who was in possession of 500 of these capsules. Upon further interrogation of the suspect, police were led to the pharmacy situated in Colombo 12 where the suspect had allegedly obtained the capsules.

Upon inspection of the pharmacy police were able to recover a further 20,670 capsules of the same brand that were stored inside. The owner of the pharmacy was also arrested.

The two suspects are residents of Kalpitiya and Kandapola. They are due to be presented before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today while Fort police are conducting further investigations.
