Pallekele International Stadium will not host a Test match during India’s one-month tour of Sri Lanka for a series of three Tests.

The original tour itinerary had included Pallekele as the venue for the third and final Test but however the announcement of the general election date brought about a change in the itinerary.

“After we rescheduled the itinerary we found that all the hotels were booked for the Kandyan Perahera. There was no alternative but to play the third Test in Colombo,” said Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley de Silva.

Thus the third Test match will be played at SSC from August 28 to September 1.

The tour will commence with a three-day warm-up match against a Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman’s XI at R Premadasa Stadium on August 6 and the first Test scheduled for Galle from 12-16.

The second Test at the P Sara Oval will commence after the General elections (scheduled for August 17) on August 20.

The Test will mark the retirement of former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara.

The tour itinerary confirmed by the Indian Cricket Board:

Aug 3: Arrival

Aug 6-8: v SLC Chairman’s XI at R Premadasa Stadium

Aug 12-16: 1st Test at Galle

Aug 20-24: 2nd Test at P Sara Oval
