Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa claims that the same technique of “use of false propaganda’ which they used at the last Presidential election is being used for this general election. Commenting on an allegation by a United National Party MP, the former President  said that spending an amount of Rs.9.4 million for a family breakfast is a “highly exaggerated” story.

Former UNP MP Nalin Bandara yesterday revealed that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s family had ordered breakfast worth Rs. 9.4 million from the Hilton and not paid the bill. MP Bandara also said that the bill was dated November 01, 2013. “We are wondering about the way they spent public funds for their family needs,” Bandara had also added.

Nalin Bandara who brought a pro-forma invoice dated November 11, 2013 to provide breakfast for 1400 guests at the rate of Rs. 5,200 per head during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) opening ceremony at the Nelum Pokuna on November 15, 2013.

The total bill with the service charge and taxes amounts to over Rs. 9.4 million
