Inter-school League rugby winners Royal College gave Science College a dolly passage into the final of the Milo Knock-Out tournament by resting as many as nine champion players in their semi final which they lost 26-52 at Havelock Park in Colombo on Monday.

Royal’s entire forwards pack as well as centre Akash Iddawela did not take the field and the team management cited injuries, studies and too much rugby as reasons for fielding a depleted side.

But Science College thrived on the occasion playing some fast open rugby to take a 38-5 lead at half time as they ran down eight tries in all, six of which were converted while Royal replied with four tries two off rolling mauls indulged in by a second string pack.

Even by being down to 13 players after referee Priyantha Gunaratne yellow carded two players for infringing in the rolling maul, Science College sliced in to score two tries within the ten minute punishment period.

Science College will now meet Isipathana College in what is already a foregone conclusion as to who will lift the title on July 12 at the Royal Complex ground.
