Speaking at a press briefing today convened by the Pivithuru Hetak National Council Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera said the Council has not made any decisions regarding an alliance in the upcoming general election. According to the Thera Pivithuru Hetak is open to joining hands with any party including the UPFA for the benefit of the country provided true change is shown by them in the coming days. However the Thera also claimed he will not be contesting in the upcoming elections.

While agreeing that a few good works were taken up in the 100 day program the Thera expressed his displeasure at many key issues neglected by the government before the election. He was critical regarding government’s inaction regarding the 20th amendment and the Right to information bill and other key issues. “The responsibility for inaction lies with Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and President Maithreepala Sirisena” he said adding that many things expected of the government that received a large people’s mandate were not completed. “However we will fight to ensure these issues are taken up in the next three months” he said adding that the council will work towards creating a broad national front  to ensure good governance in the country.
