A group of former LTTE cadres were handed over to their families following a one year rehabilitation program in Vavuniya on June 30. The event was held at the Poonthottam Rehabilitation Center.
Currently over 12000 such former LTTE cadres, who surrendered to the armed forces during the final stages of the war, have been rehabilitated and returned to society. Only 55 cadres remain in the facility being put through the rehabilitation process.
At the event, seven former cadres were released to their families having also received education, guidance along with training in various trades such as construction and carpentry.
The individuals were released under the guidance of Rehabilitation Commissioner General Major General Jagath Wijethilake. The event was presided over by Poonthottam Rehabilitation Center Co-coordinating Officer Colonel H.A.R Hambon and Lieutenant B.B.H Fernando.
