Hillwood College pocketed the under 15, 17 and 19 titles at the Zonal netball tournament held recently. The “A” team became champions and the “B” team runner-up in the Kandy District Milo Trophy competition which was worked off in Kandy,
It was a home and home affair where in the U-19 final, the “A” team led by Dilrukshi Perera beat there “B” team led by Azra Azam 7-4 in a closely contested game. Both these teams have qualified for the All I Island tournament.
Some of the ruggerites who played last season in Colombo have given their concent to play for the champion Kandy Sports Club next season. They are Srinath Sooriyabandara, Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, Sisila Duminda, Shehan Pathirana and Sayuru Anthony.
Kandy SC who are under the watchfulness eyes of their former captain Saliya Silva are hoping to field a strong side for the inter club Sevens. The team will be led by Sri Lanka skipper Fazil Marija. There is a possibility of fielding a second team too.
Schools Rugby knockouts
Trinity College the only school to qualify for the knockout tournament from the hills, did well to beat D.S. Senanayake College by 41 points to 14 and now have qualified to meet Isipathana College in the semi-finals on Sunday at Royal College Sports Complex.
A combined Schools cricket team from Toronto are here on a twelve day tour. They will play against Kingswood College on 10th July which is their last game.
Pushpadana Girls College pulled off a sensational nail-biting 53-51 victory over St Anthony’s Convent to pocket the Central Province Girls Schools under-19 Basketball title. The tournament was organized by the Central Province Education Department.
