A suspect wanted in connection with several murders and abductions has been taken into police custody. Police Media Unit said the suspect was arrested on Saturday (27) while staying at a rented house in Periyamaduwa, Aadigama.

Interrogation of the suspect had revealed that he had been involved in several murders and abductions dating back to 2005. The suspect had been arrested for allegedly killing one individual and causing injuries to three others on December 15, 2012 at Wennappuwa.

He had been in remand custody at the Negombo prison during the trial into this case. However, on March 19, 2013 he had escaped from the custody of prison officials while being warded at the Negombo hospital following an illness. The suspect was also being tried in absentia by the Marawila Magistrate’s Court for allegedly murdering an individual at Wennappuwa on October 24, 2009. This case is due to be taken up for hearing again on November 23, 2015.

The suspect is further alleged to have been involved in the abduction of a woman and child from the Wennappuwa area on November 16, 2012. Police have submitted a report to the Marawila Magistrate’s Court regarding this incident and the case had been put off until the suspect was arrested.

Police investigations have further uncovered that the suspect had also been wanted for allegedly abducting a man and subsequently beating him to death in October of 2005.

The suspect has been identified as a 28-year-old resident of Kolinjaadiya, Wennappuwa. He was produced before the Chilaw Magistrate’s Court on June 28 and was remanded in custody until June 29. Pallama police are conducting further investigations.
