St. Peter’s College gifted victory to Science College conceding two tries on a platter by failing to touch down in defence and eventually lose 22-27 their Milo trophy Knock-out quarter final rugby match at the Royal Sports Complex ground in Colombo on Sunday.

The Peterites conceded both tries within the first 15 minutes of play as Science College took a 22-5 lead at half time. One of the tries was awarded as a penalty try under the post by referee Dinka Peiris which was also goaled like the first one.

The second half was dominated by the Peterites who scored three more tries but after conceding the first half lead and a subsequent try ten minutes before the end it was too late to catch up.

Overall the Peterites found the wet ball in the aftermath of a heavy downpour hard to handle while the Science College players made less handling errors.

Science College’s Tharanga Maduranga and AS Dilshan (2) were the try scorers while Nishon Perera, Diyath Fernando, Kevin Dixon and Narendra Perera crossed the line to score for the Peterites.

In a rare case the match commissioner evicted a spectator from the stands who turned abusive towards the touch judge or assistant referee.

Science College will meet the formidable Royal College team in the semi final on July 4 at the same venue.
