Addressing a gathering of lawyers, a few days ago, Ranil W boasted that “our” Supreme Court was established as far back as 1802. I am shocked that he seems unaware that in 1802 “our” own king yet reigned over the kingdom of Tri Sinhale from Kandy. What Ranil refers to is a “court” set up by the British rulers of [only] the Maritime Provinces. It is nothing for us to boast about.
Ten years ago Ranil made yet another unforgivable statement when he declared that Sri Lanka should celebrate the arrival of the Portuguese conquistadors, 500 years earlier, in 1505. Every time he speaks of Sri Lanka’s history, poor RW shows his colonialist bias.
