Pakistan trailing Sri Lanka by 167 runs fought back to wipe out 62 of the deficit for the loss of Mohammad Hafeez’s wicket on the third day of the second Test played at the P Sara Oval.

Hafeez was caught at first slip by Kumar Sangakkara off Angelo Mathews for eight in the fourth over of the innings. However Ahmed Shehzad (39) and Azhar Ali (14) carried the total to 62 for one by lunch.

Pakistan trailed by 115 runs with nine second innings wickets in hand.

Play was delayed by half an hour due to rain and Sri Lanka’s last pair lasted ten balls during which they added 11 runs to their overnight total of 304 before they were dismissed for 315.

Last man Dushmantha Chameera (2) provided leg-spinner Yasir Shah with his sixth wicket of the innings when he top edged playing across the line to provide Younis Khan with a running catch at slip.

Rangana Herath remained 18 not out and Yasir ended up with figures of 6 for 96 and brought his tally of wickets in the series to 15.
