For Muslims around the world, the holy month of Ramadan is a time for familial union bound by the spiritual musings, piety and prayer. A ritual of fasting is observed for a month, with families uniting to break fast at sundown in a celebration of their faith and devotion.

Cinnamon Grand Colombo and Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo warmly invites all celebrating, to share in this deep rooted tradition, through a spectacular Iftar buffet laid out in honor of Ramadan. On from June 18 till the dawn of Ramdan, The Taprobane Restaurant, Shisha Lounge and Room Service at Cinnamon Grand and The Dining Room at Cinnamon Lakeside will provide the perfect ambience for breaking fast during this sacred month in the Islamic calendar.

Break-fast the traditional way at Cinnamon Grand Colombo with luscious dates, wheat or chicken kanji and enjoy a menu featuring fattoush, adukku roti, pulka, biriyani, kofta, shawarma, kebabs, kushari and many more.

The buffet at The Taprobane will include salads, soups, action stations for meat, seafood and roti, carvery and desserts. Among the vast spread are Babaganouj (grilled eggplant with cubed vegetable salad), Tabouleh (Bulgur, tomato, parsley, mint, onion, lemon juice and olive oil), Loubieh Bi Zeit (tempered long beans) and Salatat Al-Jazar (Moroccan – carrot salad with raisins) in the starters section, Shorbet Roz Bil Dajaj, Shoirbet Harira and others in the range of soups available. Roz Bil Shaereya (vermicelli rice), Kabsa (Arabic mixed rice with spices, vegetables and meat), Lamb Nazips (lamb cooked with tomatoes, onions and bell peppers), Macaroni Pasta with Bechamel, Samak Harrah – Seafood (Grilled Modha with spicy tomato sauce) and Dajaj Salona (chicken stew) are but a few of the vast selection of mains.

Among the desserts are almond paste filled Iranian dates and pistachio paste filled sun dried apricots in dark chocolate cover, Baklava (an assortment of buttered pastry layers with nuts and doused in syrup), Mohalabia Al Nokhada (milk pudding flavored with rose water, topped with blueberry and pistachio).

The snack and main meals available at the Shisha Lounge and Room service also feature a fantastic spread – mixing the traditional favorites with new flavors inspired by the old.
Special features in the snack menu are the Arabic Cold mezze platter which comprises mutable, hummus, fattoush, baba ghanoush and tabbouleh and Hot Mezze which is a combination of mutton samosa, mini chicken pastille with cinnamon and icing sugar, spicy seafood pie, cottage cheese and potato patti.

The mains section, which features the typical break-fast dishes, will also include an Arabic cold mezzeh platter, lentil soup or mutton conjee, mixed grill platter with mutton adukku roti, mixed grill Kebab with fresh salad and pulka and fish tagine al affasi with steamed rice, among others.

Available at The Taprobane and Shisha Lounge as well as through Room Service restaurant, the Iftar menu is on from 6.30 p.m. to 11.00 p.m.

At Cinnamon Lakeside, the special menu at The Dining Room includes Iftar snacks such traditional dates and dry nuts along with chicken and plain ‘kanji’ or porridge, chicken shawarma, falafel sandwiches, lamb kofta, tuna puffs, vegetable or mutton samosas, falafel and freshly cut fruits.

The already impressive dinner buffet will receive a touch of Middle Eastern flavor with dishes such as kabsa rice which is infused with flavor from the chicken or mutton it is cooked in, Arabic rice, tandoori fish and Arabic mixed grill. Whilst the menu may vary on different days, the buffet will feature a large number of Arabic favorites. To end with, the dessert section features the likes of um ali, tumrbelnargine (coconut dates), marmul, phirani (rice pudding) and babusa.
