Two suspects were taken into custody yesterday after police raided a pharmacy in Maggona, Payagala where medicinal drugs were being sold to school students and youths without a doctor’s prescription.
According to Police Media Unit, the raid was conducted jointly by the Walana Anti-Vice Squad and officials from office of the Director of Health and Food Safety for the Kalutara District. A stock of 200 drug capsules that were at this pharmacy was taken into the custody of officials from the office of the Director of Health and Food Safety.
The two suspects that were arrested were released on bail with instructions to appear before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court on July 3.
Investigations had revealed that the capsules are prescribed for patients suffering from nerve pains and that youths had been abusing these prescription medications, which they had used as a narcotic.
