Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera told journalists today that Parliament could be dissolved ‘within hours’ and not within days. He was responding to a question raised by a journalist whether the country was now on the eve of an election.
Speaking further at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department, Samaraweera said he hoped it was and that they were ‘talking in terms of hours and not in days’. However, when queried whether Parliament would be dissolved at midnight today (June 24) as it is rumored, the minister said he could not say for certain, saying ‘Only the President and God knows’.
Samaraweera however, said he hoped that a new Parliament will be in place before September.
