Zahira College maintained the supremacy in schools football by clinching the All Island Division 1 Inter School Football Tournament – 2014 when they defeated St. Mary’s College, Negombo by two goals to nil in the final played at Maradana on June 12.
The tournament was organized by Sri Lanka Schools Football Association.

Zahira College, Maradana maintained super skills and played aggressively from the start. They posed many a problems for the boys from Negombo by maintaining the pressure in their goal area.

However, St. Mary’s showed that they were not easy meat and kept Zahira at bay through their solid defence.

Zahira found their solace in the final minute of the first half then they scored through mid fielder Mohamed Humaid.

Zahira led 1-0 at the lemons.
Playing with more power Zahira dominated the second half as well and scored another goal in the 17th minute through striker M. Shafeer and sealed a comfortable 2-0 victory.

St. Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya beat Nalanda College 2-nil in the play off for third place.

Zahira College dominated the 2014 schools football by clinching many championships. Notable among them are the Invitation 7’s tournament organized by Elizabeth Moir School, “Chox” Inter School All Island Championship organized by Football Federation of SL, Zahira Invitation 7’s Tournament organized by the Past Prefects Association of Zahira College, Futsal Tournament organized by St. Joseph’s College, Maradana and Colombo Zonal Championship organized by the Ministry of Education.
