During dengue inspections held recently in the Colombo city limits, it was found that of the 7,883 premises inspected, 60 percent of the potential breeding sites were in Borella. Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni said they are thus expecting an outbreak of dengue from this area.

A three-day dengue awareness program was held by the CMC on June 16, 17 and 18. Dr. Wijayamuni said findings during the inspection were alarming, adding that 12 percent of the premises inspected were potential breeding places. Further in one percent of the premises inspected, dengue breeding was found. CMC will be filing 92 cases and legal action will be taken, Dr. Wijayamuni said.
