Southern Provincial Council Minister D.V. Upul was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today. He was summoned to record a statement regarding an incident where he is alleged to have publicly issued death threats against police.
Addressing a public gathering, the provincial council minister had allegedly threatened to stone to death officials of the Financial Crime investigation division (FCID) once Mahinda Rajapaksa becomes prime minister.
Earlier the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court had earlier directed the Controller General of the Immigration and Emigration Department to prevent Minister Upul from leaving the country till investigations into his comments are concluded.
