The recent heatwave of India has led to deaths of more than 2300 people. It is the fifth deadliest in the world and second deadliest in India after the one in 1998 that claimed 2541 lives (Emergency Events Database). Climatologists warn that the heatwaves are likely to increase in both intensity, frequency and will be of longer duration in the future. Based on various climate models they have identified India as being particularly susceptible to repercussions such as heat-related deaths, due to lack of adaptive methods.
