“The environment is something you are very familiar with. It’s everything that makes up our surroundings and affects our ability to live on the Earth; the air we breathe, the water that covers most of the Earth’s surface, the plants and animals around us, and much more.” Simply this can be referred to as the environment.
We all have to stay in and with the environment. You cannot say that we have beaten the environment already. If you think like that it means that you have beaten yourself because you are also a part of the environment. So, the environment should be important to us.
The United Nations has proclaimed a special celebrating day for the environment called World Environment Day (WED). It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. This is celebrated every year on June 5 to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. Environmental organizations, schools and groups of all kinds typically organize events leading up to and taking place on June 5. The theme for WED is ‘sustainable consumption and production’ and the slogan for the theme is ‘Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.’
The topic is a particularly powerful one because there’s room for everyone to take a moment to question how we live and how it impacts the planet. The theme asks everyone to evaluate our consumer habits: how we shop, eat and travel. Many of the Earth’s ecosystems are nearing into its bad edge. According to UN Environment Program, creating more sustainable lifestyles is crucial. Globally, we are extracting more resources to produce goods and services than our planet can replenish. The result is that economic growth and social development cannot be sustained with our current consumption and production patterns.
By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same and with a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion, we will need three planets to sustain our way of life. Our global consumption is already exceeding the Earth’s carrying capacity by around 50 percent. As a result, we are already running out of cheap and high quality sources of some essential materials such as oil, copper and gold, the supplies of which, in turn, require ever-rising volumes of fossil fuels and fresh water to produce. The issue of food loss and waste is probably the most striking example of our dysfunctional production and consumption patterns, which hampers efforts to reduce the poverty gap.
People misused this environment already. Air pollution, water pollution and land pollution has exceeded its limit because unkindness of human activities. It is a really bad situation where people don’t understand these disasters and don’t work for secure future. They make investments for businesses, educations, children etc. but they don’t make any investments in the environment. But as youth crew you have to think about this problem in a different manner and get the leadership to make considerable changes in peoples’ behavior that has a negative impact on the environment and this should be done on behalf of all human beings as soon as possible.
Firstly you have to be an exemplary individual from your practical work. As an example, usually when you are thirsty you buy a soft drink, have it and throw out that bottle to the nature. You might not think that will increase land pollution and dirtiness of the environment. But you will speak against environment pollution very strictly. Even though you don’t understand that you are also an offender. So please don’t be a person who is ‘good in talks’. That is what not the dear environment expects from us. We need to transition to more efficient and sustainable consumption and production patterns to meet this challenge. Living within planetary boundaries is the most promising strategy for ensuring a healthy future. Human prosperity need not cost the Earth.
Living sustainably is about doing more and better with less. It is also about knowing that rising rates of natural resource use and the environmental impacts that occur are not necessary byproducts of economic growth.
If we don’t change our unkind feedback of environment, it won’t be friendly with us for sure. People have to confront earthquakes, earth slips, flood, volcanoes, tsunami and tornadoes and many more. Sometimes there can be new disasters that we don’t know at this moment.
Talk to yourself. Ask yourself whether you are an environment savior or not. If the answer is yes, work for a better environment further more. If the answer is no, read this article again and again and get the idea about protecting the environment for a secure future.
