Former footballer G.S. Piyatissa Samarakoon passed off at the age of 74 on 25th May in Sweden. He was a product of Dharmaraja College, where he started his sports, and it was in football he did well in the mid 1960’s.

He was a regular member of the Kandy Schools team, later played for “Abeyasinghe Mudalali’s” Madiyamalanka Football Club. From here he polished his game and crossed over to Saunders Sports Club and also played for the country.

After two bad losses Trinity take on Kingswood in a Cup competition at Pallekelle. Dharmaraja play host to Thurstan in a Plate game at Bogambara while St. Anthony’s scrum down with Prince of Wales at Nittawella.
Trinity will go all out to restore their lost prestige against home rivals Kingswood to keep their glory in their home town.
Dharmaraja College should have things to their own liking against Thurstan College.
Antonians are also almost certain to emerge victorious against Prince of Wales.
Kandy Schools ‘Blues’ did well to become joint champions by holding Colombo Schools ‘Reds’ to a one all draw in the girls schools hockey nationals. There were no scoring in the first half. On their way to the final Kandy Schools ‘Blues’ routed Kandy Schools ‘Whites’ 4-nil in a semi-final.
