Sri Lanka’s oldest newspaper ‘Gnanartha Pradeepa’ is making elaborate plans to celebrate its upcoming 150th anniversary.

Topping the list of activities lined up to celebrate the occasion is the re-launching of the newspaper under the guidance of Fr. Shantha Sagara Hettiarachchi, who is serving as its editor. The newspaper will only celebrate this milestone on June 7, 2016. But celebrations for the upcoming event will commence on June 12 this year with a holly mass, which will be followed by the launching of the newspaper by Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. According to the organizers of the event, this function will be held at the residence of Bishop of Colombo.
The organizers of the event also plan to publish the first ever publication of the newspaper again (which comprised of four pages) and make it available as a souvenir. Another feature about the occasion is its printer Catholic Messenger also celebrating its 150th anniversary.

The re-launching of this historic publication will be done under a concept of renowned newspaper layout artiste Thilina Alahakoon.

The organizing committee also plans to conduct an awards ceremony and several workshops for media personnel.
