Sinhala and Tamil Christians found unity in an all-night prayer session at the historic Shrine of Our Lady of Madu on May 30 (Saturday) in Mannar. The prayer session was held under the auspices of Bishop of Mannar Rev. Rayappu Joseph and Bishop of Galle Bishop Rev. Dr. Raymond Kingsley Wickramasinghe with the blessings of other Bishops in the country.

According to a pamphlet printed and distributed by the organizers of the prayer session, the motive behind this religious event was to bring together Christians, belonging to different communities, and heal the wounds left behind by a 30-year-old war. This prayer session was held under the theme ‘FATHER MAKE US ONE’.

This prayer session is a prelude to a request made by His Holiness Pope Francis, at the historic Shrine of Our Lady of Madu, to organize such an event.

Christian devotees, who stayed overnight at the church premises, participated in the prayer session which concluded with a divine offering to The Lord the next day.
