UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardana was further remanded till June 17. He was in remand custody for questioning over a charge of having misused several vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat.
MP Gunawardana who was the Monitoring Minister for Foreign Affairs of the last regime was arrested when he appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to make a statement over the charge. He was initially remanded till May 20 by the Fort Magistrate and later again remanded till June 03. The magistrate again remanded him till June 17, when he was produced this morning before courts.
The CID had also questioned him on February 26 over corruption charges made against him by the Voice against Corruption (VaC), led by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Provincial Councilor Wasantha Samarasinghe. He was questioned by the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) on March 18 over allegations of non-payment of installments with regard to the leasing of 33 vehicles.
