A container shipped to Sri Lanka from Italy claiming to contain the ‘personal effects’ of five passengers, was inspected by officials from the Customs Revenue Task Force at the Orugodawatta Customs yard today. Officials found that the container also contained undeclared commercial goods including 78 bottles of liquor, 37 bottles of wine and 5000 kilograms of pasta. The items had been imported misusing the duty free concessions granted under the passenger baggage allowances. The evaded payment, according to Sri Lanka Customs, amounts to over Rs.1.13 million.
