Three suspects who had allegedly abducted a person at gunpoint before making off with local and foreign currency valued at Rs.2.7 million on the 8th of last month have been arrested.

According to police, the suspects, aged 46, 40 and 30 years, were arrested last evening by the Western Province North Crime Investigation Division at Ganemulla and Suriyapaluwa following a tip-off.

Police also recovered a T-56 weapon along with 12 rounds of T-56 ammunition and a T-56 magazine in the possession of one of the suspects. Police suspect that the weapon had been used to carry out the crime. Three mobile phones and Rs.15,500 of the stolen cash were also found.

The Western Province North Crime Investigation Division is conducting further investigations to apprehend the other suspects involved in the crime.
