World Environment Day is a day celebrated on June 5 every year, in order to create awareness on protecting the environment. Established by the United Nation General Fund in 1972, it is now in the hands of the United Nations Environment Program.

People and countries celebrate this day in various ways such as reducing the amount of energy being used, planting trees, holding program for this special day, helping out to protect the environment and more.

There is even an anthem for World Environment Day, written by poet, Abhay K, titled ‘Earth Anthem’. Each year, the UNEP (United Nation Environment Program) chooses a city and a theme for the celebrations and this year’s event is going to be held in Sylhet, Bangladesh with the theme ‘Our World, Our Environment’.
