An unofficial mafia is said to be running badminton in Sri Lanka which has now culminated in the sudden exit of national coach Shankar Annamalai from Malaysia who fled the island after he received a death threat from a senior Sri Lankan player.

According to Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) President Suraj Dandeniya the senior player is said to have humiliated Annamalai every time he is on duty training the younger players.

“This senior player says that he has a coach and a physio who are members of his family and is making many financial claims from the Olympic Committee and the government. What is the purpose of spending so much money on an individual who wants to just represent the country at Olympics? We should spend the money on a young prospect who will win a medal at Olympics,” observed Dandeniya. (TBR)
