Do you know that on May 31, some countries observe World Save Your Hearing Day? Save Your Hearing Day is an yearly reminder to turn down the dial and to listen to the birds chirping outside our windows, for a change. The originator of this day is unknown, but he/she sure did a great job, reminding us that it is important to save our eardrums.
The WebMD website says that the most common forms of hearing loss in adults are age-related hearing loss- caused by a slow breakdown of tiny hair cells in the ears that takes place as you age and noise-induced hearing loss which comes from exposure to loud noises. These cells pick up sound vibrations and send signals to the brain.
Fortunately, there are things you can do to prevent noise-induced hearing loss and avoid worsening age-related hearing loss.
WebMD also suggests that avoiding excessive noises, limiting exposure to loud noises, wearing hearing protection, properly removing earwax and non smoking helps prevent hearing loss.
Also, if you suspect that you have a hearing defect, do see a specialist immediately and get your hearing tested.
Hearing is one of the most important senses which allow us to communicate, learn and enjoy things like music and conversation.
What many people don’t realize is that they are exposing their ears to potentially-damaging noise and other factors on a daily basis.
Take care of your ears!
Until next week
