Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will commence its investigations today over the Bond Issue of the Central Bank. COPE has been instructed by the Speaker of the Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa.
Following a no-confidence motion presented by opposition parliamentarians against the CBSL Governor Arjuna Mahendran, Speaker Rajapaksa last week directed the COPE to probe the allegations. Mahendran is accused of being involved in insider trading in the 30-year Treasury bond issue offered on February 27 and the COPE is due to complete its report within two weeks.
According to the COPE Chairman MP DEW Gunasekara they have only very few details at present over the issue and will be calling for evidence and conducting an independent inquiry on the issue.
