It is the 23rd classic Foxhill Supercross and Team Honda wins again.
Diyatalawa, April 18, 2015. Foxhill Supercross organized by the Sri Lanka Military Academy and Sri Lanka Autosports Drivers Association. Beating all else in their classes Team Honda riders Shanuka Sandaruwan, in his first race after a nine month layoff after a practice session injury while handsomely in the lead of the 2014 riders’ points table, and teammate Imal Manchanayake took outstanding victories in the opening races of the Group M 250cc Street Trail Motocross and Group SM 250cc Super Motard categories, respectively.
Sandaruwan soon followed up on his first win. On his Honda CRF250X Sandaruwan, this twice Group M 250cc SLADA Motocross Champion – 2012 and 2013, romped home to an unchallenged second win of the day in Race 2 of the Street Trail Motocross event.
Manchanayake in his next event harried the leader throughout the race and, despite giving away vital cubic centimeters in engine size, powered his CRF250R alongside the 450cc machine of the leader in the final corner for a photo-finish, excitedly cheered on by the appreciative Foxhill spectators.
Multi-time National Motocross Champion and Team Honda rider the popular Gayan Sandaruwan present in the Foxhill paddock was itching to board a race bike but had to give his arm, injured in a between-seasons test day fall, sufficient rest time.
A total of 38 points scored from Team Honda’s bag of three race wins and a second place saw the Stafford Motor Company Limited Team Honda take home the Foxhill Team Award yet again.
A Stafford Motors innovation this year was the unique Team Honda Racing pit garages, greatly adding team presence to last year’s introduction of the multi-functional Team Honda RUV (Racing Utility Vehicle), the first ever in Sri Lankan motocrossing.
Vividly dressed in the team livery and prominently positioned in the Foxhill paddock, the pit garages blazed out the iconic Honda Wing over the racing action at this scene of numerous championship wins by Team Honda Racing.
Having so convincingly collected the prestigious SLADA Team Championship 2015 – Motorcycles award at the Foxhill Supercross, Team Honda Racing and riders Shanuka Sandaruwan and Imal Manchanayake have successfully built an overwhelming points lead in the opening round of the current Motocross and Super Motard Championship series.
