Nearly 100 protesters were arrested and two police personnel were reportedly injured during a clash that took place at the Jaffna Court premises yesterday evening.

A tense situation arose outside the court complex when the rape and murder case of the 17-year-girl was taken up for hearing. Angry protesters stoned the court building damaging several glass panels.

Police were forced to use tear gas in order to disperse the crowd of people who had gathered at the vicinity of the court complex. Police also took several three-wheelers and motor cycles into custody.

Three suspects were arrested on Friday (15) in connection with the rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl whose body was found at Punguditivu in Jaffna. Police also arrested several others in connection with the same incident.
