Hambantota Mayor Eraj Ravindra Fernando was released on bail with two sureties of Rs.1 million each when he was produced before Hambantota Chief Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara.

The Mayor was charged with threatening the Ambalantota Police Station OIC and forcibly removing a suspect who was in custody. The case was fixed for June 24.

He has also been charged on brandishing a pistol at a group UNP MPs during the time of last regime. Mayor Fernando had arrived at the New Town Hall on very first day to announce the common Opposition candidate’s (Maithripala Sirisena) name supporting the Rajitha and team. However, later he had changed his mind and left the place soon.
